If you work on internal controls, internal audit, SOX/CSOX or ICFR programs, you know how easy it is to get lost in the details. In this short video, I walk through a technique we’ve used and refined with clients for over a decade: the bird’s eye diagram.

Think of it as a supercharged swim lane diagram. It gives process owners, auditors and leaders a clear, aerial view of how a process really works: who’s involved, where the key controls sit, which systems connect, and how it all fits together. It also works well for process design and system implementations.

In the video, I cover the four steps to building one, why it’s more art than science, and why stakeholders genuinely enjoy engaging with these diagrams (and the conversations they spark).
