“Do more with less” is a mandate I hear across boardrooms, team meetings and strategy decks. Too often, organizations respond by adding new tools to solve productivity problems. But real team productivity isn’t about the tools. It lives in the invisible things we rarely talk about: how we trust each other, how we share information, and how we keep momentum going when things get messy.
I’ve been focused on productivity for years, not just individual hacks, but what actually works for teams in today’s knowledge work environment. Productivity is a team sport, and most teams are playing without a playbook.
In this short video, I share three practical principles any team can start using right away:
1. There is an “I” in Team (FOYOS: Focus on Your Own Stuff)
- Start by owning your role and your contributions.
- Clarity in your own work creates clarity for the whole team.
- It also frees you from chasing “fairness” at work, which is largely a myth.
2. Stack Your Skills to Build a Better Team
- Productive teams understand the skills in the room and how to combine them.
- Know when to bring in the specialists, not just the big-picture thinkers.
- Think of it as a sports team meets a construction crew.
3. Give (and Get) Better Feedback with “Pass When Ready” Reviews
- Don’t wait for perfect before sharing your work.
- Share it when it’s ready enough for useful input.
- Your team will move faster without spinning its wheels or wasting each other’s time.
